The day before the annual Laureus award ceremony in Paris, a meeting took place between the legendary athlete Usain Bolt and the new leader of Real Madrid, Jude Bellingham.

The athletes met on the red carpet, and for a joint photo, they performed Bellingham's iconic celebration, where he spreads his arms wide.

Yesterday, Bellingham repeated this celebration after scoring the winning goal in El Clásico, which ended 3-2 in favor of Madrid.

Usain Bolt remains the record holder in the 100-meter dash. In 2009, the Jamaican sprinted the distance in 9.58 seconds, a record that still stands unbroken.

Laureus is an annual award presented to the best athlete of the year. In 2024, the contenders are:

  • Novak Djokovic - Tennis
  • Lionel Messi - Football
  • Erling Haaland - Football
  • Max Verstappen - Formula 1

  • Noah Lyles - Athletics (short-distance running)

In 2023, Lionel Messi won the Laureus award, in 2022 it was Max Verstappen, and in 2021 it was Rafael Nadal.

The record holder for the most Laureus awards is Roger Federer, with 4 awards.
