What can we say about MelBet? Overall, it just seems like a bit of a run-of-the-mill, curacao licensed online bookmaker.

It has all the functions you would expect, lots of sports to bet on, special deals, and an online casino.

MelBet isn't fantastic, but nor is it terrible. This article will look at the ins and outs of MelBet, and allow you to decide whether or not you would like to use the website.

General information about the bookmaker

Compared to other gambling websites, MelBet is the new kid on the block. It started in 2021 and, since then, has grown to have 400,000 users- according to them.

Although their licence is from curacao, they operate from Cyprus- something we've found to be somewhat familiar among online bookmakers.

License and Legality

MelBet is owned by a company called Alenesro Ltd, registered in Cyprus - their registration number is HE 39999. Alenesro owns several other online bookmakers too.

Although they are owned by Alenerso, they are operated by Pelican Entertainment B.V., who is a curacao-based company; their gambling licence number is 8048/JAZ2020-060.

As far as we can tell, MelBet is a legitimate online bookmaker; however, be wary of bookmakers with a curacao licence, as their laws around gambling and corporate responsibility can be more lax.

Oh. and in case you're wondering, Curacao is a dutch island in the Caribbean.

Minimum and maximum rates

Unfortunately, MelBet does not accept great British pounds. They do, however, take euros and dollars. This is slightly odd as they are unavailable in the USA or most of the European Union.

The minimum stake you can make with MelBet is $/ €0.30. A low minimum rate could benefit those who do not wish to gamble with a lot of money or are just nervous about the whole gambling process.

MelBet has one of the lowest maximum stakes on any betting website. If you want to gamble with MelBet, you cannot bet more than $/ €800 at a time.

Rating

We have researched many sources of information, including forums and comments, to find out what the people of the internet had to say. And to be honest, it didn't look good.

41% of people described it as "bad". One man said they were frauds as he put money in, but it never showed up in his accounts. And another complained that he was locked out of his account.

One of the most frequent complaints was that the technical support wasn't much use.

However, on some sites, most of the review articles seem to be positive. So, it's clear that whilst MelBet does have issues that need sorting, they are a legitimate company that wants people to enjoy gambling with them.

How we evaluated the bookmaker

After using MelBet, we've come to our own conclusion outside of the reviews. Overall, the website itself seems fine. Nothing awful about it, although we can't see anything that makes it better than other bookmakers.

We find it essential to always take online critics with a pinch of salt, as most people are more likely to leave reviews after a bad experience than a good one. Having said that, any bookmaker with a Curacao licence should always raise suspicions.

Pros and cons

No online bookmaker is ever entirely good or entirely bad. So, here is a list of the pros and cons that we (and others) have found about MelBet.

Pros

• They often have bonuses to benefit both new and loyal customers.
• They have plenty of payment options for when you want to make a deposit or withdrawal.
• There are plenty of sports to bet on. No matter what you enjoy, you can put your money into it.
• Payment is usually quick and gets into your account within very little time.
• The MelBet app is incredibly convenient and allows you to make bets from your phone.
• Some matches are broadcast live, so you can watch as you bet.

Cons

• Most of the bonuses are only for sports. Therefore there aren't too many casino bonus offers.
• The security is a bit weak, so you may need to be extra careful about keeping your password secure.
• Customer complaints are often not taken seriously, and many have complained about the technical support staff.

Marginality

Did you know that bookmakers don't use the official odds? They actually alter them slightly so they can make a higher profit. The difference between the bookmaker's odds and the official odds is known as marginality.

We did a bit of maths to figure out MelBet's marginality by looking at 5 categories.

We found an average margin of 5% for high-level football by looking at Roma vs Remorse, Dinamo Brest vs Neman Grodno, and İstanbulspor vs Konyaspor.

Interestingly, low-level football had the same margin. This is rather odd for a bookmaker. We looked at Portsmouth vs Port Vale, Cold fire vs Blue fire, and Red Star A.C. vs Tempete AC.

Next, we examined tennis to find an average margin of 10%. We looked at Lehecka vs Gojowczyk, Griekspoor vs Popyrin, and Kokkinakis vs Duckworth.

Esports had a slightly lower margin than tennis, with 6%. We looked at the bookmaker's odds for K23 vs forze, Kaufland Hangry Knights vs Orange gaming, and Real Valladolid vs Huesca.

And the sport (that we looked into) with the highest margin was horse racing. Having looked at Palermo, Fort Erie, and Vichy, we found an average marginality of 11%.

Average margin

Figuring out the "average" margin for the whole of MelBet would be a lengthy task. We would need to do the maths for every sport they have.

However, we can make a rough estimate based on the information in the previous section. The average margin (based on what we know) is around 7.4%.

Financial operations

There are plenty of ways to add or take money from your account on MelBet.
Although interestingly, if you wish to pay with a bank card, you can only do so via ApplePay. Which we find incredibly odd. However, Apple Pay is a secure service.

If you wish to add or take money from your account, select the "$" on the top right, and select either "Deposit" or "Withdrawal", depending on what you wish to do.

Account replenishment

If you want to deposit money into your account, there is a minimum amount of $/€1.

The most popular method would probably be Apple Pay. However, you can also deposit using the following e-wallets: Efecty, Davivienda, ecoPayz, Neteller, and PSE.

If you would like, you could even pay with cryptocurrency. Many crypto deposit options exist, including Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Dogecoin.

Withdrawals

Interestingly, the withdrawal methods are different from the deposit methods. This is the first time we've seen an online bookmaker with deposit options that aren't withdrawal options (and vice versa).

If you want to withdraw in crypto, you can withdraw using the same cryptocurrencies as you can deposit with.

However, you cannot withdraw using a bank card. The e-wallets you can withdraw into are Jeton Wallet, WebMoney, Perfect Money, Sticpay, AirTM, Skrill, MuchBetter, ecoPayz, Neteller, and Payeer.

Commission

MelBet does not charge a commission on bets that their customers win. It's incredibly rare for a bookmaker to do so.

However, they have their own affiliate programme, which allows people to make a bit of money from promoting them. If you use MelBet through an affiliate, MelBet will take a 30% commission from the affiliate.

Tax on winnings

Whether you're charged tax on your winnings is not up to MelBet but to your national government.

Bonus program

When you first sign up to MelBet, you will get a 100% first deposit bonus of up to $100 or €100. You don't need a MelBet promo code. All you need to do is create an account and deposit just $/ €1 into your account.
Weirdly, this "first deposit bonus" needs to be used on an accumulator bet with at least 5 different bets on it.

As well as the first deposit bonus, MelBet has fantastic offers for their regular customers.

Application and mobile version of the bookmaker

If you wish to use the MelBet app, you can download it from melbet.com.

On the website, look for a button that says "Mobile Application". Here, you can pick whether you want to download it on android or iPhone.

If you're an Android user, you can get the Melbet apk download, which will put the app onto your phone. However, we don't recommend this as downloading from anywhere other than the Google play store could be dangerous and give your phone viruses.

The primary function of melbet is to enable people to place bets on sporting events. They have a wide variety of sports. Of course, other functions include related actions such as adding money to your account, withdrawing money, viewing past bets, or viewing current bets.

Casino

Yes! MelBet has a casino.

Although they do have live table games and poker, most of their casino is very slot based.

As with most online casinos, they don't run their own live games. They broadcast live games from other companies. So players play with people from many other betting sites, not just MelBet. They have all the live games you would expect, roulette, poker, baccarat, blackjack, etc.

The only not-live table game they have is poker.

Most of their casino is slot machines. Slot machines don't often give you the same excitement and sophistication of a table game, but they are nice as they take no skill. All you need to do is pull the lever and hope for the best.

As mentioned previously, MelBet has a live casino. Users can play along with the dealer as they spread the cards. But, if card games aren't your thing, there are other options.

MelBet has live matches! Meaning that as the game happens, you can see what's going on. You can see the live score, and the betting odds will change in real-time.

Broadcast matches

For some matches, MelBet has live streaming, which allows you to see the score and watch the game, just as you would if you watched it on the T.V.

If you go to the "Live" section, look out for games that have a little T.V. symbol next to them. Click on this symbol to watch the game live.

Tote

One of the more exciting betting options MelBet provides is the "Tot15", their version of the Tote bet.

Tote bets are where the money comes from those participating in the scheme, not the bookmaker. Usually, they are for horse racing, but not with MelBet!

How the "Toto15" scheme works is that people are given a "Toto" ticket, which has 15 games they can bet on. Each participant needs to predict the score for each game.

There isn't any information about how the money is allocated. Still, we know it comes from the other participants of the Toto scheme.

If you want an account on MelBet, registration is easy. You just go to melbet.com and click the big orange "register" button. We recommend registering by email.

You will need to fill out your details, such as your email address, location, and password. Once you've registered, you will receive a verification email with all of your melbet login details. Your username will be a number that will be displayed after you verify your account.

Verification

The only verification that melbet requires is email verification. You will not need to send in pictures of your I.D.

Although the security team may request ID if they become suspicious, generally, all you need to do is verify your email address.

Some may not like this as it means that technically anyone of any age will be able to create an account and gamble.

MelBet's rules

As with most online bookmakers, MelBet has the right to cancel your account anytime for any reason. However, it's unlikely they would stop the account of a paying customer without due cause (although some have accused them of doing so).

If you provide them with false information, or they suspect you're underage, they may request to see some form of I.D. or just shut your account down.

If they think you may be lying to their staff to win more money, expect your account to get shut down.

And as for your bets, once the results are in, you can't undo it. This means no cancelling if your team loses.

Safety and reliability

To be honest, the safety and reliability of MelBet is a little bit dubious.

The first issue is that you cannot pay with Visa or Mastercard but only with ApplePay. We find this a bit odd. Why can't people just pay with their credit or debit card?

The second issue is that there is no help or information for people with or at risk of gambling addiction. So, we would advise caution if you choose to use MelBet.

According to melbet.com, MelBet sponsors LaLiga, a professional sports league. However, we've looked at LaLiga's sponsor list and can't find them on that list.

So, whether we looked in the wrong place, MelBet no longer sponsors them, or it was just a lie, we're not too sure.

Conclusions

We would describe MelBet as your average, run-of-the-mill betting site. It seems to be a legitimate website that operates as it should, but nothing special about it.

Based on what we've discovered, the fact it's registered in Curacao is more likely to be a tax dodge than anything sinister.

It's a reliable online bookmaker that does what you expect.
