On the night of February 21-22, the first matches of the second round of the Copa Libertadores qualification took place, and a unique event unfolded.

Uruguayan club Nacional boasts the presence of Nigerian forward Christian Ebere. In the 42nd minute of the match against the Venezuelan club Academia Puerto Cabello, Ebere scored a goal from a penalty, securing a 2-0 victory, which ultimately concluded the game.

Ebere thus became the first Nigerian player in history to score in the Copa Libertadores.

Interestingly, this 25-year-old forward has spent his entire professional career in South America. He plays for Nacional on loan from Uruguayan club Plaza Colonia. Prior to that, he had stints in Brazil with clubs like Vila Nova, Parana, and SA Metropolitan.

Ebere is the third Nigerian footballer in the history of the Copa Libertadores, following in the footsteps of Festis Agu (Bolivar) and Ade Oguns (Caracas).
