British runner Jasmin Paris became the first woman to complete one of the toughest marathons in the world, the Barkley Marathons (160 km), in 59 hours, 58 minutes, and 21 seconds.

Paris, a mother of two children and a scientist, finished alongside four other participants, which was also a historic event. For the first time, out of 40 starters, five made it to the finish line.

Since its inception in 1986, only 17 people have successfully completed all five loops, with the most successful being American Jared Campbell, who did it three times.

The Barkley Marathons is one of the most challenging ultramarathons held in Frozen Head State Park (Tennessee). The marathon is considered extreme as it involves a 100-mile run (160 km) with constant ascents and descents, as well as a time limit of 60 hours.
