Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz (ranked #3 ATP) shared details about the injury that led to his withdrawal from the ATP 500 tournament in Barcelona, Spain and Monte Carlo.

"It all started in Monte Carlo, during the first practice session. After about an hour, I felt significant discomfort in my forearm, which I initially thought would not be a big deal. However, together with my team, we took it seriously, conducting necessary tests to see what was going on.

I returned home to assess if I could recover, patiently and with days of rest, to prepare as best as possible for Barcelona. On Saturday morning, I underwent testing, which left quite positive impressions. It gave me hope to play in the tournament, but Sunday was the litmus test. It was the first day I hit from the right side since it all began in Monte Carlo. And it didn't go as we expected. I noticed the same discomfort, and every time I increased the intensity of my shots from the right side, I felt more and more discomfort.

It was a tough decision. The tournament in Barcelona is very important to me; it's very special," Alcaraz admitted.

From April 24th to May 5th, the Mutua Madrid Open tournament will take place in the capital of Spain, where Alcaraz was supposed to defend his title.
