Liverpool and Manchester City wrapped up the first half without any goals, but the pitch was packed with dangerous chances and highly debatable incidents.
Midway through the half, City were calling for a penalty when Konaté held Marmoush, but the referee let the play continue without intervention. Just before the halftime whistle, it was Liverpool’s turn to demand a spot-kick.
Mohamed Salah went down in the opponent’s box after a clash with Bernardo Silva, but Craig Pawson’s whistle stayed silent once again. The replay clearly shows the Portuguese midfielder made contact with the Reds’ winger’s shoulder, but the referee apparently decided it wasn’t enough for a penalty.
Let’s not forget: Guardiola’s team desperately need a win to maintain their six-point deficit behind Arsenal. Otherwise, the Gunners will extend their lead at the top of the table.
