Joshua Zirkzee is staying at Old Trafford after one final deadline-day twist.

Details: Manchester United have decided to keep Joshua Zirkzee, ending Everton's late attempt to sign the Dutch forward. BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone also reported that he had been told the 25-year-old would remain at United, despite intense speculation over his future in the final hours of the transfer window.

Everton had contacted Manchester United earlier on deadline day regarding a possible deal for Zirkzee. The Toffees viewed the Netherlands international as an alternative while uncertainty surrounded their move for Folarin Balogun, and they also opened contact with the striker's representatives.

However, the final decision remained with Manchester United. The Red Devils had already rejected approaches from Italian clubs during the previous 48 hours, and the latest update effectively closes the door on another late departure. Zirkzee is now expected to remain part of Michael Carrick's attacking options after failing to feature in United's opening two Premier League matches of the season.

It is worth noting that Zirkzee joined Manchester United from Bologna in the summer of 2024. His current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2029.
