Sensational U-turn! Manchester United reignite pursuit of Barcelona star
The Alejandro Balde saga has taken yet another dramatic turn on deadline day: Manchester United have reignited their pursuit of the Barcelona left-back.
Details: According to The Touchline, citing Barcelona based outlet Jijantes, the Red Devils have stepped up their interest in the 22 year old defender in the last few hours and are now actively trying to convince him to move to Old Trafford. The player's agent Jorge Mendes is open to the operation.
Balde decided to leave Barcelona around ten days ago: according to the very same Jijantes, the Spaniard came out of talks with the club unconvinced about his future and fears that Joao Cancelo's return could seriously cut into his playing time, which is why Mendes has been actively working on finding him a new club. United have been in contact with the defender's camp for several weeks, and ESPN recently reported that Balde himself is open to the move. The deal looked dead just yesterday, when the Red Devils cooled their pursuit, deeming Barcelona's asking price excessive, and switched focus to Newcastle's Lewis Hall. But the final hours of the transfer window have rewritten everything, and Michael Carrick once again has a chance to land the left-back of his dreams.
It's worth noting that Balde is a La Masia graduate who has been part of Barcelona's first team since 2022, with a contract running until 2028 and a €1 billion release clause, although his realistic transfer price is estimated at around €70 million.
Reminder: Price shock! Manchester United cool their Balde pursuit.
