Deal for the future! Liverpool land an 18-year-old goalkeeper in a huge move
Liverpool are already thinking several steps ahead with another major investment in one of Europe's brightest young talents.
Details: Liverpool have reached an agreement with Genk for 18-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans. Reports put the total package at around €35 million, while the teenager is set to remain with the Belgian club for the entire 2026/27 campaign before moving to Anfield ahead of the 2027/28 season.
The arrangement allows Brughmans to continue receiving regular playing time in Belgium rather than immediately competing for minutes at Liverpool. The goalkeeper has already established himself in Genk's senior setup despite only turning 18 this summer.
Brughmans came through the Genk system after joining the club's academy from PSV Eindhoven in 2022. He made his professional debut for Jong Genk at the age of 16 before later earning his first-team debut during the Belgian championship play-offs.
Standing around two metres tall, the Belgian combines an imposing physical profile with strong reflexes and confidence with the ball at his feet. Genk have also repeatedly highlighted his leadership qualities, with Brughmans captaining Belgium at youth international level.
It's worth noting that Genk extended Brughmans' contract until 2030 on July 5. At the time of that announcement, the Belgian club stated that the goalkeeper had already accumulated 43 professional appearances despite his young age.
