Liverpool are trailing at halftime in their clash against Nottingham Forest.
This match saw the return of Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker to the Reds’ lineup. However, in the 33rd and 35th minutes, the shot-stopper couldn’t save his team, as the Tricky Trees struck twice through Murillo and Igor Jesus.
While there were no questions about the first goal, the second sparked serious controversy. The Brazilian forward, battling with Konaté, fired into the bottom corner from about 10 meters, but the referee decided to rule the goal out.
Following a prompt from the video assistant, Madley ruled that Igor Jesus had handled the ball. On the freeze frame, it looks as though the ball struck the forward’s chest rather than his arm, making this episode a topic of heated debate. One of Sean Dyche’s assistants was even shown a yellow card by the referee. Footage from a different angle, however, makes things less clear-cut, ensuring that questions about the referee’s decision will linger—at least for one side.
