Shocking! Mexico captain accused of organizing a kidnapping

One of the most serious scandals surrounding Mexican football has erupted around Edson Álvarez.

Details: Mexican producer Juan José López Ordóñez has publicly accused Mexico captain Edson Álvarez of being involved in his alleged kidnapping. According to López Ordóñez, the conflict stems from work on a documentary about the footballer's career and an unpaid sum of 3.5 million Mexican pesos, slightly more than $200,000.

The producer claims he was attacked in Mexico City by armed individuals who forced him into a vehicle, blindfolded him and threatened him. López Ordóñez said the alleged kidnapping was connected to Álvarez's former family circle and claimed the midfielder was aware of what was happening. These allegations remain the producer's version of events and have not been established as fact.

According to López Ordóñez, the dispute began after he worked for around two years on a documentary about Álvarez's career. He says the project was never completed and that he was not paid the agreed 3.5 million pesos. The producer has also claimed that he possesses photographs, digital materials and witnesses supporting his account.

Álvarez has categorically denied any involvement. In a public statement, the midfielder said his name and image were being used to generate media attention around a situation unrelated to him. He stressed that anyone who believes they have evidence of wrongdoing should present it to the relevant authorities, prosecutors and courts rather than make accusations through the media.

The 28-year-old has instructed his legal team to evaluate possible action against people spreading what he describes as false allegations. No publicly verified evidence proving Álvarez's involvement has been presented. It is worth noting that West Ham's official website currently lists Álvarez as a first-team player; he spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Fenerbahce before returning to the London club.
