It is not considered provocative. UEFA won't punish PSG for ‘Freedom for Palestine’ banner
Before the fourth-round UEFA Champions League match, PSG supporters staged a vivid display with a distinct political message.
Details: Fans of the Paris club unfurled a banner reading "Freedom for Palestine." After the game, discussions emerged about potential negative consequences for PSG due to the banner’s political undertone.
However, UEFA informed AFP that PSG will not face any penalties. The governing body found nothing provocative in the display.
Quote: "There will be no disciplinary action, as the banner cannot be considered provocative or offensive in this specific case," a UEFA spokesperson stated.
Article 16.4 of UEFA's disciplinary regulations allows sanctions for "any provocative message not appropriate for a sports event," including "any message of a provocative, political, ideological, religious, or offensive nature."
This regulation does not prohibit all political messages on football grounds, only those deemed provocative or offensive.
Reminder: The French Minister of the Interior had requested PSG to explain the banner, stating that such messages are prohibited by UEFA rules.
