Paris Saint-Germain have closed the book on one of the great what-ifs of his generation: Renato Sanches is officially a free agent.

Details: According to Fabrizio Romano, the Portuguese midfielder's contract was terminated tonight, with PSG letting him leave on a free despite a deal that ran until June 2027. The decision ends weeks of speculation after Record first reported the talks in late August.

It is a quiet end to what once looked like a superstar career. Sanches, 28, exploded at Benfica, won Euro 2016 and the Golden Boy award as a teenager, and earned a move to Bayern Munich where he collected four Bundesliga titles. Injuries then hijacked everything: Swansea, a revival and a Ligue 1 title at Lille, then PSG in 2022 for around €10 million. In Paris he managed 27 appearances and 2 goals in his only season before three straight loans, Roma, Benfica and finally Panathinaikos, where last season brought 24 appearances, 1 goal and 1 assist. Now, with a Transfermarkt value of just €2 million, the former wonderkid must find a club willing to bet that his body can still hold up.

It's worth noting that Sanches becomes one of the most decorated free agents on the market, with a European Championship medal and four Bundesliga titles in his trophy cabinet before the age of 29.

Reminder: Here we go! Monaco star is moving to Ajax.
