The Football Association (FA) has officially charged Chelsea and West Ham following Saturday's match at Stamford Bridge.
Details: The reason for the charges was a mass altercation between players during stoppage time, which nearly escalated into a full-blown fight. Both clubs have until Friday, February 6, to submit their official explanations.
The conflict was sparked by a clash on the touchline between Adama Traoré and Marc Cucurella, which instantly ignited a collective confrontation involving players from both sides. Traoré threw his opponent to the ground, prompting a shove from the Blues’ forward João Pedro.
The situation reached boiling point when West Ham defender Jean-Clair Todibo grabbed João Pedro by the throat. After VAR intervention, Todibo was immediately sent off. Referee Anthony Taylor also issued cautions, but the FA deemed these measures insufficient and launched a broader investigation.
According to The Athletic, leadership of both London clubs has until Friday, February 6, to submit their official statements regarding the incident. It is expected that significant fines will be imposed on both teams following the review.
Reminder: Chelsea legend John Terry turned on his camera to capture a Chelsea goal, but ended up filming Arsenal’s winner instead.
