Tottenham's bad luck with injuries has struck again, and Roberto De Zerbi made no attempt to hide his frustration: Mykhailo Mudryk's ankle problem is, in his words, a stupid injury.
Details: The Spurs boss explained the freak nature of the setback: "Playing without tackle, without different movement and he felt pain in the ankle and then after two days, he made the medical check and we knew the problem." Mudryk, who joined on loan from Chelsea this summer, is expected to be sidelined for around six to eight weeks, until at least October.
The timing is cruel for the 25 year old Ukrainian. Mudryk arrived in north London on loan from Chelsea this summer in search of a fresh start, and De Zerbi had been easing him into his plans before the training ground blow struck with no contact and no warning. Spurs fans had already been fearing the worst when the winger was spotted in a protective boot earlier this week, and the manager's update confirms a lengthy absence that rules him out of this weekend's action and well beyond. For a player whose career has stalled through stops and starts, another month on the sidelines is the last thing either he or his loan club needed.
It's worth noting that Mudryk's injury came in a simple training drill with no tackle involved, the kind of setback medical staff can do little to prevent.
