The truth is out. Liverpool will not be able to sign Barcelona player for €55m
Liverpool do not have an option to buy Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo for €55 million at the end of the season. This was reported by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who dismissed earlier reports about the terms of the Uruguayan's loan move.
According to the journalist, the agreement between the clubs is a straightforward loan without a purchase option. This means that if Liverpool want to keep the 27-year-old after the end of the season, they will have to negotiate a permanent transfer with Barcelona separately.
Araújo has already made a good impression at his new club. The defender has started two matches, while in the Champions League game against Atlético Madrid he produced a spectacular backheel assist.
It was previously reported that the €55 million figure was allegedly included in the agreement as a fixed purchase option. However, Romano has dismissed this information. Araújo's future after the end of his loan will now depend on negotiations between the two clubs.
At the same time, the defender himself is reportedly already open to staying at Liverpool. If he continues to perform at this level, the English club could consider a permanent transfer, but they would likely have to pay more than €50 million.
