CAF Champions League: Rivers United make life difficult for FC San Pedro ahead of the second leg of the first qualifying round
FC San Pedro’s trip to Nigeria for the second leg of the first qualifying round of the CAF Champions League, scheduled for Sunday 13 September, does not appear to be going according to plan.
The Petrucians’ journey from Lagos to Uyo is reported to have been marred by the disappearance of luggage belonging to some members of the Ivorian club’s delegation. In addition to this logistical setback, the Ivorian Ligue 1 club announced on Saturday 12 September that Rivers United has formally prohibited it from streaming the match online, which is scheduled for Sunday 13 September in Uyo, Nigeria.
“Technical meeting for the return leg between Rivers United FC and FC San Pedro this Sunday, 13 September 2026. The bad news to come out of this meeting is that the home team refuses to allow us to broadcast the match live on our social media channels, which would have enabled the whole of Ivory Coast and FC San Pedro supporters around the world to follow this important match. This decision by the opposing team goes against what was agreed in Abidjan during the first leg.”
Between lost luggage and broadcasting restrictions, FC San Pedro will have to cope with unfavourable circumstances for this decisive match to secure a place in the second preliminary round of the Champions League.
