FC San Pedro knock out Rivers United and qualify for the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League
The Petrucians secured a valuable 2–2 draw at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo in the second leg of the first qualifying round.
FC San Pedro continue their qualifying campaign in the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League. After drawing 1–1 at the Laurent Pokou Stadium last weekend in Ivory Coast, the Ivorian side travelled to Nigeria on 13 September for the second leg against Rivers United FC.
But just as in the first leg, the Ivorian and Nigerian sides cancelled each other out at the end of a match full of twists and turns. FC San Pedro held the lead at half-time with a score of 2–1.
However, the Ivorian side were pegged back by the Nigerians right at the end of the match. Rivers United FC equalised in the 88th minute to make it 2–2. Nevertheless, despite the 3-3 aggregate draw, the Petrucian won the tie. FC San Pedro qualified thanks to the away goals rule.
The Ivorian club thus progresses to the second preliminary round of the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League.
