Answered question about resignation. Carrick makes statement on his future after defeat to Chelsea
Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick commented on the 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the ninth round of the English Premier League. After another setback, the manager had to answer questions about his future and the team's performance.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Carrick noted that the players had been properly prepared for the game, but circumstances had gone against the Red Devils. “You saw today that the lads approached the match in the right way, but a lot went against us,” the manager said.
Carrick was also asked whether he felt disappointed with the experienced players, in particular Lisandro Martínez, who was sent off in the second half. The manager gave a brief reply: “No.”
The main question concerned his future in the dugout. Journalists asked Carrick whether he expected to be in charge for the next match against Roma. The manager answered confidently: “Yes.”
Thus, despite the painful defeat to Chelsea and the pressure surrounding his position, Carrick publicly made it clear that he is ready to continue working with Manchester United. However, his answer in itself does not mean that the club's hierarchy has made a final decision on the manager's future.
