Manchester United have reached a historic low that the club had not experienced in nearly four decades.

Details: Michael Carrick's side suffered a 2-0 away defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the ninth round of the English Premier League. This result extended Manchester United's winless streak across all competitions to nine consecutive matches, with three draws and six defeats. The last time the Red Devils endured such a disastrous run was in October–November 1988, when the legendary Alex Ferguson was in charge.

Chelsea broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Morgan Rogers. Things then went from bad to worse for United when Lisandro Martinez was sent off following an incident in the penalty area. Cole Palmer converted the resulting penalty to double the hosts' advantage.

Manchester United arrived in London having failed to win any of their previous eight matches. That run included heavy defeats against Como in the Champions League (1-4) and Bournemouth in the Premier League (0-3). The defeat to Chelsea has now extended the club's unwanted streak to nine games for the first time in 38 years.

It's worth noting that before facing Chelsea, Manchester United were sitting 16th in the Premier League table with just seven points from eight matches. Their last victory in any competition came against Sabah in the Champions League on September 10, when they won 4-0.

Reminder: What have you done, Lisandro?! One disastrous mistake turns Manchester United's clash with Chelsea into a nightmare
