Unexpected plan B for the Catalans! Barcelona find Álvarez replacement in Portugal
Barcelona are actively preparing alternative options in case their top attacking transfer target falls through.
Details: According to renowned insider Fabrizio Romano, the Catalan club have added Colombian forward Luis Suárez from Lisbon’s Sporting to their list of potential candidates. The Blaugrana management are ready to pursue this option if negotiations for Julián Álvarez’s move from Atlético Madrid ultimately fail to materialize.
Securing the transfer won’t be easy, as the 28-year-old Colombian is a key player for the Portuguese side. Nevertheless, he is already on Barcelona’s shortlist. The club plans to begin concrete talks for Suárez and other candidates starting next week—should the Álvarez deal remain stalled.
It’s worth noting that in the 2025/26 season, the striker featured in 53 matches for Sporting across all competitions, netting 38 goals and providing 9 assists. According to Transfermarkt, his market value is estimated at €30 million, and his contract with the Lisbon club runs until the summer of 2030.
