The decision is made: Klopp names Neuer’s successor for Germany
Jürgen Klopp has settled on the hierarchy among Germany’s goalkeepers ahead of the upcoming Nations League matches against Serbia and the Netherlands. The head coach has opted for the experience of Marc-André ter Stegen, who will become the team’s first-choice goalkeeper, Goal reports.
Despite strong competition from Jonas Urbig and Alexander Nübel, the coach decided to entrust the 33-year-old with the starting spot. Both challengers have been putting in impressive performances in the national championship, but Klopp chose the proven goalkeeper.
Marc is having a fantastic season in Amsterdam, and fortunately, the other two are also producing excellent results. We are approaching these matches with Marc as our first-choice goalkeeper. It’s not about who is making the best saves at the moment, because goalkeepers must provide stability and confidence, the coach said.

Ter Stegen is enjoying a career revival after a serious injury that previously kept him out of the 2026 World Cup. The German is now once again getting regular playing time at Ajax.
