"Thought foreign coaches were in the past". Gary Neville not happy with Tuchel's appointment

Today, German manager Thomas Tuchel was officially appointed as the new head coach of the England national team, a decision that has sparked widespread debate in the country. One notable reaction came from former Manchester United defender and current TV pundit Gary Neville.
Details: Neville, a legendary figure in English football, expressed his disappointment over the Football Association's decision to hire a foreign manager for the third time in its history.
Quote:
"I think we are damaging ourselves. I do think there are outstanding English candidates who could have been appointed.
We are in a rut when it comes to coaching. English coaching has one of the worst reputations in Europe – we don’t have a clear identity and have not built a style which is unique to us.
We have seen coaches from all around Europe come to the Premier League and in input their styles in our game and we’ve copied them, but in my opinion we need to build an identity and let English coaches flourish.
I thought we’d left that period [of appointing foreign coaches] behind".
Reminder: Tuchel's last managerial position was at Bayern Munich, which he left after last season. Prior to that, he managed Chelsea, PSG, and Borussia Dortmund, winning the Champions League with Chelsea in 2020-21.
In the first four rounds of the UEFA Nations League Group B, England has collected 9 points and trails Greece by 3 points.
On November 14, England will play Greece in Tuchel's debut match, followed by a home game against Ireland on November 17.
