German coach Thomas Tuchel was officially announced as the new head coach of the England national team on Wednesday morning.

The 51-year-old specialist will begin his new role on January 1, 2025. This will be Tuchel's first experience managing a national team, having only worked with clubs in his career so far.

“I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team,” Tuchel told the press via *englandfootball.com*. “I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already. To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.

The Football Association (FA) also announced that Anthony Barry will join Tuchel as his assistant coach, with the rest of the coaching staff to be finalized at a later date.

Working closely with Anthony as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud. I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark and John, for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together,” Tuchel added.

Currently, England competes in League B of the UEFA Nations League, where they are second behind Greece. The “Three Lions” reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup and were runners-up at Euro 2024.

Tuchel's appointment follows the departure of Gareth Southgate, who stepped down as England manager after Euro 2024. Lee Carsley served as interim coach following Southgate's departure.
