Barcelona's pursuit of Pedro Porro has taken a dramatic new turn. According to Catalan television channel 8tv.cat, the Tottenham Hotspur right-back will become a new Barcelona player in the winter transfer window, in what would be one of the January market's most eye-catching moves.

Details: 8tv.cat reports that Barcelona consider the operation for the 27-year-old Spain international effectively mapped out for January. The claim comes amid growing reports in England that Porro is actively pushing for a return to Spain: according to the London Evening Standard, the full-back's relationship with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has deteriorated badly, with several heated confrontations behind the scenes. Porro renewed his Spurs contract in June 2026, tying him to the club until 2031, so any deal would require significant negotiation.

The background to this saga has been building for weeks. Barcelona have been searching for a solution at right-back, and Porro's outstanding performances for Spain at the 2026 World Cup, where he scored in the knockout rounds and built an excellent understanding with Lamine Yamal, only intensified the Catalan club's interest. Previous reports suggested Barça could even sacrifice Jules Koundé to fund the move.

Compounding the uncertainty in north London, Tottenham have made a dismal start to the Premier League season and sit bottom of the table after five matches, a sporting crisis that could push several key men towards the exit door. Porro is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury and is expected back in action later this month.

It's worth noting that the bombshell claim from 8tv.cat has yet to be corroborated by the major English or Spanish outlets, and Tottenham, who hold all the contractual leverage, have not commented. For now, the Catalan channel's confidence contrasts with reports from Spain suggesting there are no formal negotiations yet, leaving the door open for a saga that could run all the way to deadline day.
