€130m sensation! Tottenham go after Atlético star
Tottenham are ready to shake up the winter transfer market.
Details: According to El Nacional, Tottenham are preparing a sensational €130 million January offer for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Alvarez. The London club are looking to make a major statement in the market by targeting one of the most valuable forwards in world football.
The report claims Spurs also have an unusual plan to convince the Argentine. Tottenham are reportedly prepared to include a release clause in his contract that could facilitate a future move to Barcelona if Alvarez later decides to continue his career in Catalonia.
At this stage, neither Tottenham nor Atlético Madrid have officially confirmed negotiations over the striker, so the proposed €130 million bid and the potential Barcelona clause remain part of the reported transfer plan.
The Barcelona angle is particularly notable because Atlético recently made their position public: the Madrid club stated that they would not negotiate with the Catalans over a transfer of Alvarez and that a direct move to Barcelona was not under consideration.
It is worth noting that Alvarez remains an Atlético Madrid player and is under contract until June 2030. Transfermarkt currently values the 26-year-old Argentina international at €100 million.
