South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo admits defeat to South Africa was his fault which suggest he may resign
South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo has taken full responsibility for the country's 1-0 defeat to South Africa.
Myung-bo said a loss in games of the World Cup magnitude have only person to blame and that is the coach.
“On a stage as big as this, the head coach is responsible for all the results,” Hong said at his postmatch press conference, as quoted by The Korea Times.
“Ultimately, I made wrong decisions that led to this outcome. There’s nothing more, nothing less to it.”
Myung-bo said his team did not have any off the field challenges which may have affected their display at Estadio Monterrey yesterday morning against South Africa.
“Although we played poorly, we didn’t have problems of such nature,” he added.
“And even if we had some issues, I wouldn’t want to use them as excuses anyway. But this was indeed our worst match in the group stage.”
Now Korea's hope is to qualify for the next round as one of the best third place finishing nations as Mexico and South Africa went through to the last-32 round after finishing first and second, respectively.
