NPFL: Shooting Stars Beat Inter Lagos 2-1 in 2026/27 Season Opener
Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan began their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with a 2-1 victory over newly promoted Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, on Friday.
The Oluyole Warriors took the lead in the 15th minute when Lucky Emmanuel fired a powerful effort from inside the six-yard box to put the home side in front.
Inter Lagos responded after Njoku capitalised on an error from Shooting Stars captain Gbolagade Adelowo. He collected Iyede Kewe’s pass before finishing to level the score.
Shooting Stars regained the advantage just before half-time when Sodiq Ibrahim calmly converted a penalty in the 46th minute to make it 2-1.
The second half was a tight affair, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances as Shooting Stars focused on protecting their lead.
The hosts were awarded another penalty later in the game but failed to convert from the spot, giving Inter Lagos a chance to fight back.
However, Shooting Stars held on until the final whistle to secure all three points and make a winning start to the new NPFL season.
