A scandal is rocking Senegal’s ticket sales for the 2026 FIFA World Cup

The sale of Senegal’s tickets during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was co-hosted this summer by the United States, Canada and Mexico, is causing quite a stir in Dakar.

According to reports in the Senegalese newspaper L’Observateur, the supporters’ committee responsible for supporting the Lions of Teranga has lodged a complaint against Elite Sports Events Management, the organisation commissioned by the Senegalese Football Federation to sell a portion of the tickets for the last FIFA World Cup.

The operation was expected to raise 60 million CFA francs. However, of this expected sum, only 10 million CFA francs are said to have been paid.

This shortfall of 50 million is now at the centre of an investigation being conducted by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Senegalese police. Two officials are reported to have already been questioned by investigators in connection with this case.

This is not the first scandal to hit Senegal in connection with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. During and after the tournament, several irregularities came to light concerning the Senegalese Football Federation.
