PSG star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has achieved tremendous success with the French side, capturing the club’s first-ever Champions League title. To honor this achievement, the footballer may receive a prestigious state award in Georgia, according to Sportowe Fakty.
Kvaratskhelia’s Champions League victory has become a major event for Georgia. As a result, local media have speculated that he could be awarded the Order of St. George the Victorious—the country’s second-highest national honor.
“When our athletes win such trophies, we can present them with these awards. Winning the Champions League is an accomplishment worthy of such recognition,” stated Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
It’s worth noting that this award can be given not only to Georgian citizens. In the past, the order has also been presented to leading political figures, including Joe Biden and George Bush.
For the record, the only other Georgian to win the Champions League before was Kakha Kaladze, who lifted the trophy twice with AC Milan.
