Achraf Hakimi has written his name into African football history after becoming the most-capped African player in FIFA World Cup history during Morocco’s 2026 Group C clash against Scotland.

The Paris Saint-Germain defender reached a landmark 12th World Cup appearance, moving clear at the top of the continent’s all-time rankings.

Hakimi entered the 2026 tournament with 10 appearances and added to that tally after featuring in Morocco’s 1–1 draw with Brazil earlier in the group stage. His latest outing against Scotland takes him to 12 appearances overall.

The 27-year-old now stands alone at the summit of African World Cup appearance makers, surpassing Cameroon’s François Omam-Biyik and Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan, who previously shared the record with 11 appearances each.
