Benin’s run comes to an end at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Poland 2026

In their first-ever appearance, the Amazons were knocked out of the competition at the group stage.

The Beninese side had, however, given their fans something to dream about with their spectacular 2–2 draw against Mexico on the first matchday of Group A. But the rest of the tournament proved to be a complete disappointment for the Amazons.

Following their heavy 8-0 defeat to Argentina on matchday 2, the Beninese side suffered another defeat on Friday 11 September during the third and final matchday of Group A. Facing the host nation, Poland, the Amazons were comprehensively beaten 4-1.

Zuzanna Grywinska opened the scoring for Poland in the 26th minute to make it 1–0, before Kinga Wyrwas doubled the lead in the 31st minute to make it 2–0. Shortly afterwards, Zuzanna Grywinska scored twice more, completing her hat-trick in the match to seal Poland’s victory.

For Benin, Romaine Gandonou salvaged some pride with a superb direct free-kick late in the match to bring the score to 4-1. Benin exit the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, Poland 2026, with a record of one draw and two defeats.
