2030 FIFA World Cup: Fouzi Lekjaa announces Benslimane as the venue for the final; FIFA plays down the situation

Whilst the tournament is to be jointly hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation publicly announced on Thursday 10 September that the final would be played on Moroccan soil.

According to Fouzi Lekjaa, the final is set to take place in Benslimane, a town situated 60 kilometres from Casablanca, which will be home to the Hassan II Stadium, currently under construction. The stadium will have a capacity of 115,000, making it the world’s largest stadium dedicated exclusively to football.

“The province of Benslimane will have the honour of hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup final,” said Fouzi Lekjaa.

However, FIFA was quick to deny the claim made by the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. When contacted by RMC Sport, FIFA stated that no final decision had yet been taken regarding the venue for the final. “The decision will be made in due course.”

For their part, Spain and Portugal, the co-hosts of the tournament, have not commented on the remarks made by the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
