It escalated into clashes with the police.
Details: Today in Rabat, the capital of Morocco, the opening round of AFCON Group E featured a showdown between Algeria and Sudan.
Before the match, more than a thousand Algerian supporters gathered, hoping to enter the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan for free. However, access was denied because tickets were required for entry.
Unwilling to take no for an answer, the fans attempted to force their way into the stadium, prompting the arrival of several police units who managed to subdue the most unruly supporters.
Reports indicate that these fans expected free entry to the Algeria vs. Sudan match, just as they had been allowed into the Egypt vs. Zimbabwe fixture without charge, due to empty seats at that venue.
The match itself ended in a resounding 3-0 victory for Algeria, while the frustrated fans failed to get in for free this time—there simply weren’t enough empty seats for such generosity.
