Algeria launched their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a clinical 3-0 victory over Sudan at the Stade Prince Moulay Hassan in Rabat on Wednesday. Captain Riyad Mahrez asserted authority immediately, striking the opening goal just two minutes into the match.
Mahrez doubled the lead in the 61st minute, demonstrating signature footwork before firing home his second of the afternoon. Sudan’s hopes of a recovery faded shortly after when Salaheldin Adel was sent off for a second bookable offense. With the numerical advantage, Algeria dictated play, allowing teenage substitute Ibrahim Maza to score a debut goal in the 85th minute to seal the result.
The win places Algeria atop Group E. Vladimir Petković’s side next faces Burkina Faso on December 28.
