2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers: Congo v Cameroon clash in Brazzaville under threat of being played behind closed doors

The Red Devils are set to host the Indomitable Lions on the second matchday of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

However, this match could take place without supporters. The Alphonse Massamba Debat Stadium, which is due to host the match, does not meet the requirements of the Confederation of African Football. Following an inspection of the stadium, breaches of safety regulations were identified.

As a result, the clash is at risk of being played behind closed doors. However, the Congolese Football Federation insists it is working hard to rectify the situation. The governing body of Congolese football has issued a statement on the situation.

“Alphonse Massamba Debat Stadium: Work is currently underway to meet CAF’s requirements and avoid a closed-door match, so that supporters can turn out in large numbers to support the Red Devils on 29 September 2026 against Cameroon.”
