Official: Brahim Hemdani is Algeria’s new head coach

A new era is dawning at the helm of the Algerian national team’s coaching staff.

Following Vladimir Petkovic’s departure after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Algerian Football Federation has found his successor. The governing body has chosen a local coach to take the reins of the Fennecs.

The AFF has appointed Brahim Hemdani as the new head coach of the national team. The former Algerian international will be supported in his role by Antar Yahia as assistant coach. This appointment comes ahead of the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Drawn in Group I alongside Zambia, Togo and Burundi, Algeria will begin their qualifying campaign at home. This will therefore be Brahim Hemdani’s first test as Algeria’s head coach.

Prior to his appointment as head of Algeria’s coaching staff, Brahim Hemdani was manager of Algeria’s Under-21s. He is therefore stepping down from that role just two months after taking it up.
