Football is closely intertwined with politics.
Details: Recently, a meeting of UEFA member countries took place in Budapest to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Hungarian Football Federation. However, aside from the festive atmosphere, the gathering was also marked by serious discussions about a possible boycott of the upcoming World Cup, prompted by potential actions of US President Donald Trump.
The likelihood of a boycott was deliberated by 20 leaders of various European football associations. Ultimately, it was decided that a boycott of the World Cup in the USA by European nations could be considered a direct response to US military actions against Greenland.

Previously, Germany stated that it would be the first to boycott the World Cup if the US military annexed Greenland. After the meeting in Budapest, England, France, and the Netherlands announced their support for this stance.
However, officials from the International Federation of Football (FIFA) consider such a scenario highly unlikely.
The 2026 World Cup is set to take place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, but the majority of matches are scheduled to be held in the United States—putting the world’s biggest football celebration at serious risk.
