Barcelona have received funds from Nico González’s transfer to Manchester City, but the amount turned out to be significantly lower than initially expected.
Details. Barcelona was inactive on the final day of the winter transfer window but still managed to secure much-needed funds. They came from Manchester City, which signed Nico González from Porto in a €60 million deal.
Barcelona initially earned €8.5 million from the first sale of their academy graduate Nico and retained a 40% sell-on clause. Based on this, they were expected to receive €24 million from the Porto-Man City deal.
However, Porto activated a clause that allowed them to purchase an additional 20% of the player’s rights for just €3 million.
As a result, Barcelona retained only a 20% sell-on clause. Ultimately, the Catalan club received a total of €13.3 million — significantly less than initially expected.
Reminder. Barcelona recently announced the contract extension of key midfielder Gavi.
