Birmingham have collected six points from four games without losing, while Wolves have seven points and already boast the division's most productive attack among the two sides, with 11 goals scored and eight conceded. Birmingham: unbeaten start backed by an increasingly dangerous attack
Chris Davies' team have started the league season with remarkable consistency. Birmingham opened with a goalless draw away to Sheffield United, then drew 2-2 with Bristol City, beat Wrexham 2-1 and shared the points with Southampton in a 1-1 draw. Five goals in four matches is not an extraordinary attacking return, but the Blues have scored in three consecutive Championship fixtures and have conceded only four times.
The performance against Southampton was particularly encouraging. Birmingham created 16 attempts despite having much less possession, Jay Stansfield missed two excellent opportunities, and August Priske eventually equalised with a header in the 55th minute. The combination of Stansfield operating behind Priske, Patrick Roberts and Carlos Vicente providing support from the attacking line, and Phil Neumann offering a major aerial threat at set pieces gives Birmingham several different routes to goal.
There are, however, some personnel concerns. Demarai Gray, who came off the bench against Southampton, is currently listed with a shoulder injury, while midfielder Marc Leonard has been recovering from a hamstring problem. Neither player started the latest league game, so Davies should still be able to keep the core of his XI intact.
Wolves: goals are flowing, but defensive stability is still missing
Wolves have been one of the Championship's most entertaining teams so far. César Peixoto's side drew 2-2 with Blackburn before beating Preston 3-1 and Stoke 4-1, but their perfect winning run ended with a 4-2 defeat away to West Ham. That gives Wolves an impressive 11 goals in four league games, but eight conceded at the other end is a warning sign.
The scoreline at West Ham was also harsher than the performance suggested. Wolves had 57% possession, attempted 18 shots and twice struck the woodwork during a strong opening period. Marshall Munetsi scored their first goal, while sustained pressure forced Konstantinos Mavropanos into an own goal for the second. Peixoto himself highlighted how many chances his team created despite the defeat.
Defensively, Wolves are still dealing with important absences. The club's latest update confirmed Kieran Trippier, Yerson Mosquera and Rafiki Saïd remained sidelined, while Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was also expected to miss another couple of weeks. Those absences reduce Peixoto's options in a defence that has yet to record a Championship clean sheet this season.

At the same time, Wolves have produced considerably more attacking output than the hosts and created plenty even in the 4-2 defeat at West Ham.
The more convincing angle is therefore to back goals at both ends. Birmingham's last three league matches have finished 2-2, 2-1 and 1-1, while Wolves' four Championship results are 2-2, 3-1, 4-1 and 2-4. Peixoto's team have enough attacking quality to threaten Birmingham, but their defensive numbers and current absences make another clean sheet difficult to trust.
