For the first time in Bundesliga history. A landmark event in the Schalke - Bayern Munich clash
Today, 5 September, the Bundesliga will witness a historic match: for the first time in the history of the German top flight, two players aged over 40 will face each other.
Manuel Neuer will line up for Bayern Munich away against his former club Schalke. Super-veteran Edin Džeko plays for the Gelsenkirchen side. The Bosnian striker is 10 days older than the Bayern goalkeeper.
The Schalke — Bayern Munich match will kick off today at 18:30 CET. The teams will meet at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen. For Schalke, it will be their first home game since returning to the Bundesliga.
The statistics, however, are not in the hosts' favour. Bayern Munich have won their last 12 competitive matches against Schalke by an aggregate score of 42-2.
The match will also be a special one for Harry Kane. Schalke are the 21st team the England striker will have faced in the Bundesliga. Kane has scored against each of his previous 20 opponents in Germany's top flight.
He still has a long way to go to match Miroslav Klose's record. The legendary German scored against all 28 clubs he faced in the Bundesliga.
