Is this the end? Neymar set to miss months again — but for how long?
Neymar has been stopped by another injury just as he was trying to build momentum with Santos.
Details: Santos confirmed that Neymar underwent medical examinations on September 4 after suffering discomfort during the Brazil Cup clash with Palmeiras. The tests revealed a type 2B muscle injury to the rectus femoris in his right thigh. The Brazilian star felt the problem late in the first half and did not return after the break.
The most worrying part is the potential recovery period. Santos have not announced an official date for Neymar's return, but reports in Brazil suggest that this type of injury could keep the 34-year-old away from football for between four and eight weeks. In the worst-case scenario, his absence could therefore stretch to around two months.
Neymar is already ruled out of Santos' next league match against Internacional. His condition will now be monitored closely by the club's medical department at CT Rei Pelé, with the exact recovery schedule depending on how the muscle responds to treatment.
The injury occurred during a painful night for Santos. Their 0-0 draw with Palmeiras was not enough to overturn the deficit from the first leg, meaning the club were eliminated from the Brazil Cup. Neymar's physical setback only made the evening even more damaging.
It is worth noting that Neymar has recorded 24 appearances across all competitions in 2026, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists. Another lengthy spell on the sidelines would once again interrupt a season in which the Brazilian has repeatedly had to manage physical problems.
