Manchester City is set to complete the signing of defensive midfielder Nico González from Porto in the coming hours, according to insider Fabrizio Romano.
The Cityzens will pay the €60 million release clause, though with a different payment structure.
The 23-year-old Spaniard is now traveling to Manchester for his medical before signing the contract.
Why City is signing Nico González
González is expected to replace Rodri, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to injury.
The midfielder came through Barcelona’s academy, making 37 appearances and scoring 2 goals for the first team. He later played for Valencia (26 matches, 1 goal) before joining Porto in 2023 for €8.44 million.
During his one-and-a-half seasons with Porto, González has played 68 matches, scoring 9 goals, providing 9 assists, and collecting 20 yellow cards.
