Itumeleng Khune on Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Peterson and their clash against Zamalek: Peterson has done well and the team can beat Zamalek
Itumeleng Khune has commended Brandon Peterson’s leadership qualities as the reason Kaizer Chiefs have done well in the Caf Confederation Cup.
Khune, a former captain and Chiefs goalkeeper, said the team has done well to make it past Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek on Saturday in their final Group match.
A win is what will safely secure Chiefs a place in the last-16 while a draw or a loss may be important on what happens between Zesco United and Al Masry game.
Chiefs are on top of Group D with 10 points, Zamalek are second with eight and Al Masry are third with seven while Zesco only have three.
So, essentially, all three sides in Chiefs, Zamalek and Al Masry have a chance of making it to the last-16.
But Khune said Chiefs can pull off a victory at the Suez Canal Stadium against Zamalek.
"The boys have done very well so far by leading the group, and everything is in their hands – they have to go away to Zamalek and make sure they win the game convincingly so they can qualify for the Last 16," said Khune.
"They have done so well for themselves and they know that they have our backing, we will continue supporting them so that they go all the way to the final and lift the cup."
"Ja, no, it's very pleasing to see that the team have improved under Coach Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef, and I'm happy to see Brandon Petersen keeping more clean sheets.
"Obviously it wouldn't be possible if it wasn't for his defence, so I'm happy to see such an improvement in the team."
"Being a leader of the team comes with a huge responsibility, and I'm happy that Brandon Petersen has taken his game to a whole different level.
"And he's been carrying the team and the players, and it shows with his performances, so I'm proud of him and I should say he must keep up the good work."
The match starts at 6pm.
