CAF is considering introducing VAR as early as the group stage of the Champions League and the Confederation Cup
The governing body of African football could take a further step towards modernising refereeing in its inter-club competitions.
According to reports, discussions are underway within the Confederation of African Football regarding a possible extension of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) from the group stage right through to the finals of the Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup.
Whilst no official decision has yet been taken, discussions are reportedly still ongoing. Through this initiative, the Confederation of African Football aims to further raise refereeing standards within its inter-club competitions.
It should be noted that VAR is currently only used from the quarter-finals onwards in the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
