The Senegal national team finished the 2026 World Cup group stage in spectacular fashion, confidently dismantling Iraq in their third-round clash. The match took place at BMO Field in Toronto and ended with a resounding 5-0 victory for the Senegalese side.
Details: Senegal became the first African team in history to score five goals in a single World Cup match.
The team seized the initiative from the start. In just the 4th minute, Habib Diarra opened the scoring, and Iraq's situation quickly became desperate: in the 14th minute, Rebin Sulaka was shown a red card, leaving his team a man down.
After the break, Senegal finished the job. Ismaïla Sarr got on the scoresheet and provided an assist, confirming his status as one of the team’s key attacking threats.
Pape Gueye also delivered a standout performance. The midfielder bagged a brace and set up Iliman Ndiaye, turning the second half into a true showcase for Senegal's attacking power.
This victory was not only emphatic in terms of the scoreline, but also historic in its significance. Senegal has now entered World Cup history as the first African team to score five goals in a single tournament match.
