Arne Slot has delivered an optimistic update regarding Swedish striker Alexander Isak.
Details: Liverpool head coach Arne Slot expressed confidence that Alexander Isak will return to the pitch before the end of the current season, despite suffering a serious injury.
As a reminder, the Swedish forward was injured during the match against Tottenham (2-1), sustaining the blow at the very moment he scored. On Monday, Isak underwent ankle surgery after being diagnosed with a fibula fracture.
When asked about his recovery timeline, Slot emphasized that a lengthy absence is expected:
"There is no exact timeline. It's a serious injury—he'll be out for several months. It's a huge disappointment, above all for him, but of course for us as well."
At the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Wolverhampton, the coach was also asked if he was sure Isak could help the team at the business end of the season.
"Yes, I'm confident about that. It's been a very tough period for him. He came into a new club, was full of enthusiasm and eager to make an immediate impact, but that turned out to be impossible," Slot noted.
According to the coach, Isak has lacked a proper training rhythm for quite some time:
"If you haven't trained at a competitive level with the team for three or four months and then try to play in this league, you need to be in perfect shape to make a difference. He didn't have a pre-season, faced a congested match schedule, and there was hardly any time left for proper training."
It is worth noting that this season, the Swede has managed to play sixteen matches for the Merseysiders across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
Reminder: Liverpool forward Florian Wirtz has avoided a serious injury.
