An incredible achievement from Cristiano.
Details: Cristiano Ronaldo continues to rewrite the history of world football. By stepping onto the pitch in the World Cup round of 16 clash against Croatia, the Portugal captain became the oldest player ever to appear in a World Cup knockout stage match.
At the moment of setting the record, the iconic Portuguese star was 41 years and 147 days old. No player before him had ever featured in a World Cup knockout game at such an advanced age.
Even in his sixth World Cup appearance, Ronaldo keeps setting unique milestones. For the five-time Ballon d'Or winner, this tournament may well be his last in the national team jersey, making every match truly historic.
Ronaldo made his debut for Portugal back in 2003. Since then, he has played 232 matches and scored 145 goals.
Reminder: Time to go. Ronaldo could announce his retirement from the Portugal national team as early as today
