Barcelona could have quickly extended their lead in their fourth-round La Liga clash with Valencia, but Lamine Yamal’s second goal was ruled out.

Yamal opened the scoring in the sixth minute to put the Catalan side ahead. Just three minutes later, the 19-year-old found the net again and appeared to have completed a brace. However, the referee disallowed the goal for offside.

The incident was fairly controversial, so the final decision was made following VAR intervention. After reviewing the footage, the referee confirmed the offside and ruled out Yamal’s second goal.

As a result, Yamal was unable to complete a quick brace, while Barcelona retained their narrow advantage. His first goal, however, stands and remains the one that put the Catalan side ahead early in the match.

The incident was one of the main talking points of the opening stages for Yamal. Following his disallowed goal, Barcelona are still leading 1-0 after 23 minutes.
