The Champions League play-off participant has officially confirmed the departure of his head coach
Renowned Italian tactician Maurizio Sarri has tendered his resignation as the head coach of Lazio. The news, which was speculated by football insiders yesterday, has been confirmed by the club's official website.
In lieu of Sarri, the role of interim head coach will be assumed by his assistant, Giovanni Martusciello.
Yesterday, it was reported that the club is considering its legends Tommaso Rocchi and Miroslav Klose as replacements for Sarri.
Sarri has been coaching Lazio since the summer of 2021. Prior to his tenure with the "Eagles," he has managed Juventus, Napoli, Chelsea, Empoli, and several Italian clubs in lower divisions.
Under Sarri's guidance, Lazio finished second in the previous season and reached the round of 16 in the current Champions League campaign, where they were defeated by Bayern Munich. After 28 Serie A rounds, Lazio finds itself in ninth place. The Roman team has suffered four consecutive defeats in all competitions.
